Canada Spousal Temporary Resident Visa

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is now speeding up the processing of Spousal Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). At now, the IRCC is processing the Spousal TRV applications in a rapid 30-day timeframe. This means that if you plan to apply for this particular visa, your spousal TRV could be approved in just 1 month. Besides, the Spousal TRV applications are achieving an extraordinary 90% approval rate.

Attaining the Spousal TRV in just 30 days is a momentous benefit for applicants who have already applied for a Canadian PR Visa. They are no longer need to stay in their home countries while waiting for the processing period. In its place, they can now come to Canada during the review of their PR application.

This measure allows Canadian permanent residents or citizens with spouses and dependents abroad to unify with their families at an earlier stage, easing their integration into Canadian communities.

However, it is crucial to keep in mind that while on a TRV, spouses and dependents are not allowed to work or study in Canada until they get approval for the PR visa or acquire a valid work or study permit.

Exceptional approval rate

The spousal applicants for TRV have achieved an exceptional approval rate of over 90%, as confirmed by then Immigration Minister Sean Fraser on May 26. This amazing success can be credited, in part, to the improved use of advanced analytics by the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Minister Fraser emphasised how this technology enables the IRCC to thoroughly analyse many factors within each individual's application, leading to a more precise assessment of their likely eligibility for Permanent Residency (PR). By leveraging advanced analytics, the IRCC can make more well-versed decisions, contributing to the remarkable approval rate for spousal TRV applicants.

Presently, there is a processing time of 1 year for Permanent Resident (PR) Visa applications via family class sponsorship. However, now that spousal TRVs are being processed within just 30 days, and IRCC has 60 days processing time for work permits, it may take just 90 days for a sponsored spouse, partner, or dependent child to be able to arrive Canada and start working while they wait for decision on their PR application.
