On April 11, 2024, the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) opened second express entry draw of the week. This was a category-based EE draw, Canada has issued 4,500 ITAs (Invitations to Apply) for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) Visa to the candidates with work experience in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) occupations. In the 15 express entry draws held in 2024, the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued total 32,475 ITAs for Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) Visa this year.

Usually, the CRS score requirement or CUT OFF from Canadian immigration department remains high in the all-program immigration draws of federal Express Entry System as was in the 10th April 2024 EE draw. However, on 11th April, it was a category-based Draw for specific category candidates, hence, the IRCC dropped the CUT OFF to just 491 points. If you fall under any of the below categories, you stand a good chance of getting Canada Permanent Resident (PR) Visa invitation.

Category-Based Selections this year

Canada has continued the same six categories for category-based selection in Express Entry draws throughout 2024. These categories include:

  • A strong French language proficiency or
  • Work experience in one of the below fields:
    • healthcare
    • science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
    • trades, such as carpenters, plumbers and contractors
    • transport
    • agriculture and Agri-food
